CONSORTIUM MEETING
July 5-6, 2006
National Institute for Communicable Diseases Johannesburg, SA
The aim of this consortium is to establish working relationships among virologists, clinicians, epidemiologists, informaticians and social scientists, based at African Institutions and US/Swedish Partners towards three specific aims:
- To develop a cross-national public health and virological research collaboration to identify patterns of ARV drug resistance through low cost detection of drug resistance in HIV-1 subtype C, among ARV treatment cohorts in Southern Africa.
- To implement a cohort survey of family-community economics in each of ~5 treatment settings, comparing household economics, labor value, health care costs, savings and disavings, treatment access, and risk behavior.
- To develop and implement innovative means of shared data collection, management, and analysis to monitor and evaluate outcomes (behavioral, clinical, epidemiologic, virological-informatics) in response to ART in resource constrained public health settings in Southern Africa.
